17th-Apr-2007 03:11 pm - comfort eating
Is anyone else looking at the news reports and the rain outside and just eating up a storm today? I've already had three snacks out of our work snack closet (which is supposed to be Off Limits on the Pru-rules for dieting) which is more than I've had all month.

There is just nothing good about today...

This weekend has pretty much been a wash for me. The weather was terrible, I'm PMSing pretty badly, and the results weren't pretty. We probably managed to stay within calorie ranges, but we ate some very unhealthy foods over the past two days. We also didn't get in any walking due to the steady rain and 35mph sustained winds.

I'm retaining water at the moment, but even so, my net loss is now 13lbs. whee!

So I'm living out of a hotel, which does not make for easy food choices.

Tomorrow I hit the local Whole Foods and stock up on our fridge.

Also, I'm in Wisconsin because my grandmother is in a hospital and very likely being moved into a retirement home. Family is being forced together and we're not the kind that generally gets along.

Can we say stress eating?

Still continuing with the marathon training, but I have been eating an *awful* lot of chocolate.

Last week, my exercise was almost nil. I managed to gain 3 lbs by Friday. I lost two of them over the weekend for a net loss of 10 lbs since my start date. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that it's cold out - and I don't do cold.

I'm going to try this recipe tonight. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Also, I give you veggie fried rice:

Heat 2tsp oil in a wok or large sautee pan.
Add 1 small chopped onion and 3 c. cooked long grain brown rice and sautee on high until onion is soft - about 5 minutes
Add 1-2 c. frozen mixed vegetables and reduce heat to medium. Sautee for 5 minutes or until vegetables are heated through.
Lightly beat two eggs.
Make a well in the rice mixture.
Pour eggs into the well and scramble.
Mix eggs with rice.
Add 3tsp light soy sauce and toss to distribute.

Serving size is 1/2 cup. Makes 8 servings

If there is a Trader Joe's in your area, check out their freezer section for their store brand Veggie Egg Rolls. They're 117 calories each.
9th-Apr-2007 07:25 am - How is everyone doing today?
The weekend was a good one. I ran both days, switching from intervals of one minute running, two walking to two running, one walking. I was a little bit sore right after the run, but I feel good today. Today is a rest day for running, but I'll be going to my regular yoga class at lunchtime.

Weighed in this morning and even after breakfast, I was down another pound, for a total of six. That's motivation. :)

How is everyone else doing today? How was your weekend? I'd love to see new posts!

Heh heh.

I am at 666 points over on SP.

That's all. :D
6th-Apr-2007 12:02 am - How it goes
dream tree
Did excellent on the nutrition today. Ate 3 actual meals, didn't resort to any empty calories, and didn't go over on any of the stuff I'm tracking.

For exercise, today was day 4 of the marathon training, whis was a walk day. I walked 4 miles in 1 hour, 2 minutes. So, now I know that's the worst case scenario for the 4-miler we're planning to do at the end of June :) And really that wasn't the fastest I could have done it. I forgot to change out of my flat-footed shoes, and I noticed if I don't really force myself to pay attention, I start to daydream and slow down. Time to load the ipod up with lots of high-speed techno to keep me bouncing :)

I stepped on the scale quick this morning, and I've gained almost 2 pounds since last weigh-in. It's not an official weigh-in though, so I'm not gonna count it :) I'll see on monday how it's going. It may be I'm just going to gain in muscle mass faster than I can get rid of fat weight. IF so, I don't mind as long as the gut goes away :D
5th-Apr-2007 08:00 pm - Week one: marathon training
The first week of running has gone well so far. I admit that I'm a walking pile of sore at the moment, but I'm taking heart in the fact that I'm less sore today than I was on Tuesday, despite having done the exact same workout.

That's something.

I also went to the gym today to do weights, but followed a slightly less challenging program than I usually do. I felt better for that, I think, though I was still really tired. I find that I'm exhausted after doing strength training until I eat something with protein in it. That really helps a lot.

Diet-wise I've been doing pretty well without too much effort. I've settled into a routine, though I need to expand the meals I eat. I tried the Spaghetti Squash Marinara today and found it surprisingly tasty. (I'm not a squash fan). I'm still struggling with the calorie limit somewhat - I'm usually ridiculously low and end up eating lots of stuff at the end of the night, which probably isn't healthy. I think I have a fear of having to go to bed hungry that makes me scrimp on the calories throughout the day.

I'm still not sure that I can run one mile, much less four, but I'm determined to keep trying!
4th-Apr-2007 11:54 pm - Last couple of days
Since I took up searchingbuddha's training challenge, I had to rearrange my sparkpeople settings a bit. I changed the cardio settings to match the times planned for the training, and SP adjusted my diet settings to match. It brought my minimum calories up by a little more than 400 calories, which is proving to be a bit of effort to meet :)

Yesterday was a walking day, so no problems. Today was supposed to be a running day, but I had to ride my bike to the post office again. 10.2 miles, hour and 14 minutes on the road, burned 574 calories. It worked out to the same time and calories, and since I was having shifter problems with my bike, it was a LOT more work. My legs were all rubbery afterwords :)

Tomorrow's another walk day, then running thursday and friday. I'll do actual running both those days, but think I'll work some biking in each week to change up what muscles get used on some days.

Will be interesting to see on Monday what effect all the changes have.
